About Us
The Keene Sentinel traces its heritage as a daily newspaper back to March 23, 1799, when it began publication as a weekly newspaper. First called the New Hampshire Sentinel, it has been published continuously since that date. It added a daily edition in 1890 with the inauguration of the Keene Evening Sentinel. The weekly New Hampshire Sentinel publication continued until 1957, when it was combined with The Keene Evening Sentinel. The Sentinel is the ninth oldest continuously published newspaper in the country.
The first edition of The Sentinel came off the press in 1799 and was distributed to 70 subscribers at $1.50 per year. Within six months, 250 subscribers had been attracted; within two years, the number grew to 500.
Since that first edition, which included a petition against the alien and sedition laws, The Sentinel has stood as an independent voice for the community of Cheshire County. We are dedicated to engaging, informing, and empowering our community with the information they need to make informed decisions and improve their lives.
For more than 225 years, The Sentinel has partnered with local businesses in the Greater Keene community, providing effective marketing solutions.
From a print advertising purveyor in 1799 to todayโs robust multimedia product line-up, our expert marketing consultants represent a comprehensive suite of products and services.
We will partner with you to develop a data-focused, integrated, and customized solution to help you and your business achieve their goals.
For more than two centuries, our local community has trusted Sentinel Solutions for our journalistic integrity, comprehensive local community coverage, and marketing solutions that help local businesses thrive.
